High Frequency Aftercare: First 48 Hours Checklist
By Derma Aesthetics Spa | September 24, 2026
Cherry Creek, Denver, Colorado | High Frequency Add-On (15 minutes, $40)

If you only follow one high frequency aftercare rule, make it this: keep your skin calm for 24 to 48 hours. That means no heavy sweating, no hot environments, and no strong active products while your skin settles. I use this 15-minute High Frequency Add-On to help treat acne and stimulate circulation, and most people leave with that “clean and refreshed” feeling right away. In Denver’s high altitude and strong UV, the calming part matters even more. Your skin can look brighter fast, but the first two days are what protect that result.
0 to 24 Hours: the “don’t poke the bear” rules after high frequency
Right after a High Frequency Add-On, your skin tends to be a little more reactive. Mild redness, warmth, or a light tingling sensation can be normal. The goal is to avoid anything that piles on heat, friction, or bacteria.
First 24 hours checklist: Skip heavy exercise and anything that makes you sweat a lot, avoid hot showers and baths (keep water lukewarm), don’t use saunas or steam rooms, and keep your hands off your face. Cleanse gently, moisturize, and wear broad-spectrum SPF if you’re going outside.
Can I work out today?
I generally recommend waiting at least 24 hours before intense workouts. Sweat plus gym bacteria plus touching your face is a common recipe for irritation and breakouts. If you absolutely need movement, keep it easy. Think a calm walk, like an easy loop on the Cherry Creek Trail, and then cleanse gently afterward.
What to do that night
Keep your nighttime routine simple. Gentle cleanser, hydrating moisturizer, and nothing else that stings. And yes, change your pillowcase if you can. It’s a small step, but it helps when you’re trying to keep pores clear.
24 to 48 Hours: what to avoid after high frequency so you don’t undo the glow
This is the window where people get tempted to “do more.” Don’t. High frequency facial aftercare is mostly about restraint. I’ve had plenty of facial clients tell me they love how clean, smooth, and glowy their skin looks right after treatment. Protect that by keeping irritation low.
- Hold retinoids and active exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs, scrubs) for 48 to 72 hours. If you’re acne-prone, this one is big.
- Skip at-home devices that heat the skin, aggressive cleansing brushes, and rough washcloth rubbing.
- Avoid tanning and long sun exposure. Denver sun is intense, and Cherry Creek errands can turn into more outdoor time than you planned.
- No picking. Even “just one.” Picking can turn a small clogged pore into a sore spot quickly.
If you’re fitting this into a busy week, I get it. A lot of my clients are active professionals who want short recovery windows and clear rules. High frequency is usually easy to live with. The trick is giving your skin two calm days so it can do what it’s trying to do.
Days 3 to 7: post-treatment skincare high frequency that keeps breakouts quiet
After 48 to 72 hours, many people can slowly return to their normal routine. I still like a cautious ramp-up if your skin is sensitive or acne-prone. If you start an active again and you feel burning or you notice new irritation, back off and go gentle for another day or two.
My simple “back to normal” order
- Keep cleanser gentle all week. Your barrier likes consistency.
- SPF daily. Even on days you’re mostly inside. UV still sneaks in, especially at altitude.
- Add actives one at a time, and only if your skin feels calm.
If you’re stacking services, keep the timing smart. If you’ve been thinking about chemical peels, ask me first so we can space things appropriately. Same goes for anything like red light therapy. These can be great in a skin care plan, but your calendar matters.
Products that protect your result (and what I actually want in your bathroom)
You don’t need a complicated shelf for high frequency aftercare. You need the right categories, used consistently. In Cherry Creek, I see dryness sneak up fast because of Denver’s climate, so hydration is not optional.
1) Gentle cleanser
No scrub particles, no “squeaky clean” finish. If it feels tight afterward, it’s usually too much for the first few days.
2) Hydrating moisturizer
Think barrier support. If you’re dry, you’re more likely to overproduce oil and feel bumpy.
3) Broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+)
Apply in the morning and reapply if you’re outside. Denver UV is real, and it shows up as lingering redness and uneven tone.
If you came in after searching “facials near me” or “spas near me, ” I know you’re comparing options. Here’s my honest take: the best facial results come from the appointment and the days after. I’ll give you clear steps, and I won’t pressure you into buying products you don’t want.
When to text or call me (and when it’s totally normal)
A little redness, mild tingling, or a “warm” feeling right after high frequency is usually normal. What I don’t want you to do is wait it out if something is clearly getting worse.
“I was extremely taken care of, relaxed and educated. My skin looKs GREAT.”

Reach out if you notice: worsening redness after the first day, swelling, increasing pain, new pustules, oozing, or anything that looks like infection. I’d rather you check in early so I can guide you.
If you’re in Denver, Glendale, Aurora, Cherry Hills Village, Englewood, or Greenwood Village, follow-ups are easy to keep on track. A lot of my Cherry Creek clients like pairing a low-key aftercare day with a quick stop around the shopping area, then keeping the rest of the day simple for their skin.
If you’re also dealing with post-workout congestion, I wrote a more specific guide on high frequency add-on for post-workout breakouts. And if you’re building a bigger plan, take a look at our full services list and keep the results gallery handy when you’re deciding what to book next.
